CORPORATE ADVOCATES
Autism Speaks
Autism Speaks has grown into the world's leading autism science and
advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes,
prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of
autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals
with autism and their families.
In 2011, ATA partnered with Autism Speaks to promote awareness of the
life-changing benefits that children and families may experience through
martial arts training, to educate instructors about autism and autism
spectrum disorders, and to raise funds supporting the crucial missions of Autism
Speaks.
Songahm Taekwondo, the curriculum taught at licensed locations, systematically
promotes discipline, honor, self-control, respect, courtesy,
perseverance and loyalty, learned behaviors that extend far beyond the
mats. Songahm Taekwondo is taught at the ability level of each student
and focuses on personal development of the mind and body. The pace of
progress depends on the individual.
Three fundamentals of Songahm Taekwondo are increasing attention,
self-control, and self-discipline. In a great number of autistic individuals,
these core attributes have shown to be effective in achieving personal
advancements while overcoming developmental obstacles. Because physical
education can be challenging to autistic children, exercise opportunities are
often limited. Martial arts, however, can provide a way for individuals with
autism to participate in specifically designed workouts and classes while
helping to strengthen their physical condition and social activities.

Olweus - The World's
Foremost Bullying Prevention Program
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is the most researched and
best-known bullying prevention program available today. With over
thirty-five years of research and successful implementation all over the
world, OBPP is a whole-school program that has been proven to prevent or
reduce bullying throughout a school setting.
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is designed for students in
elementary, middle, and junior high schools (students ages five to
fifteen years old). Research has shown that OBPP is also effective in
high schools, with some program adaptation.
ATA joined forces
Olweus in 2010 to integrate bullying prevention strategies with martial arts
training. Hundreds of instructors certified in the ATA have received this vital
safety training which they, in turn, have presented to tens of thousands of
children across the country through seminars and special events. Learn more

President's Challenge
The President's Challenge is a national, non-partisan fitness
campaign operated by the
President's Council on Fitness, Sports and
Nutrition that aims to encourage all Americans to "make being active
part of their everyday lives" and to be physically fit. The campaign
offers the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) program for
starters and President’s Champions program for more active people.
ATA has been a proud advocate of the President’s Challenge since
November 2010, pledging to promote the program to members and licensees
indefinitely to get martial artists enrolled and winning. The goal is to
reduce the rising rates of obesity and related health problems
worldwide, particularly in the United States, by raising the profile of
martial arts as a healthy lifestyle choice that everyone can and should
make. Engaging in the President’s Challenge fitness campaign also
bolsters the ‘fitness’ image and credentials of ATA martial arts
training, with tangible results for licensees.
Always one to lead by example, Grand Master In Ho Lee, 9th Degree Black
Belt, Dae Sah Boo Nim of WTTU/ATA/STF, enrolled first in the PALA
program, earning his award in record time. He then entered the Champions
program, logging daily workouts and other rigorous activities into the
website, and with steady progress soon achieved Bronze, Silver, and Gold
levels in the Challenge, with Platinum his ultimate goal (which he will
reach this fall!) His supreme example has inspired almost 1,100 martial
artists to join the President’s Challenge with ATA so far, about a
quarter of whom have won at least one program level. Winners may add an
official patch to their traditional white uniforms (see your instructor
for proper placement) and add their names to the official Winners List
on ATALeadershipNOW.com. To join the campaign, simply visit the portal
